Day 17 Newquay to Perranporth 10.5 miles

After a bit of a faff parking in Newquay & finding our way back to the coast path we were finally on our way this morning, heading around the headland and along Fistral Beaxh out if town. Again the weather was glorious & it was awesome to watch the surfers and walk on the beach.

We went round another headland and back into the Gunnel where we managed (as it was low tide) to ford the river using a little footbridge. After this we wandered over the rest of the beach where unbeknownst to us there was killer quiksand... We only just made it out alive!

Around another headland and a few really nice coves and we made it to Holywell for lunch, its a really lovely beach with a river running down it, and we sat by it for a while, as the sun had made us quite fatigued.

Up a small incline after lunch around an army camp where I had to keep an eye on Melzie as she wanted to go & look for soldiers.

An absolutely amazing view of the 2km beach at Perranporth as we came around the corner. And as the tide was still far enough out we could walk along the beach barefoot... A great end to the days walk.

We stopped for a cuppa at the Watering Hole on the beach & went to check out bus times. We stopped a taxi man & were in the process of asking him how much it would be to get back to Newquay, when 2 guys who we'd seen walking the same route said do we want to share a taxi back? We gratefully accepted as the bus took forever. During the journey back I told them what I was up to and after the older man, George, said he would cover the fare & we could donate our portion of it to the charity fund. His mother had died from MND. They were so nice & even dropped us outside our car after they had got theirs. When we left George gave me a hug & said good luck, it was so sweet.

At the beautiful campsite now, which is also letting us stay for free. Will have to say goodbye to Melzie in the morning which is sad but the walking should be fun past our old surfing places.
