Day 42 Brixham to Maidencombe approx 16 miles

We parked up in Brixham this morning and set off into a little wood and along the path to Broadsands. Our aim for today was to get as far along the original 19 miles as we could, given the state of my feet last night I wasn't too hopeful. But in the end they held up ok and we stopped a couple of miles early in Maidencombe, but mainly for time purposes.

A lot of the day was spent in the towns of Torbay. First came Paignton where we walked along a long beach front walkway and it was the typical English Riviera seaside town. The weather was beautiful and the walking pretty easy. A wonderful thing happened at Preston Beach in Paington, a group of people stopped us ( we were both wearing MNDA t-shirts) and one of them was Bob Brewis, a man who had been diagnosed with MND 18 months ago. We had a lovely chat and felt so amazing after we left the family. Bob is keeping a daily blog and is on Facebook posting things about his life with MND. They also donated to our fundraising effort which was so kind.

After this inspiring meeting we set off with a spring in our steps into Torquay. We had a bit of sea wall, busy road, marina & harbour in Torquay, and no sign of anything Faulty Towers like, it was very swanky.

It took a long time to go around the but headland of Torquay. It was on minor roads lined with pine trees. And then dropped down onto a path when the heavens opened, but only briefly luckily. A fair few Ups and downs past Babbacombe & Oddicombe.

It was at this point we had debated stopping for the day and catching a bus back to Brixham. But as we were feeling good & the weather was holding up we decided to push on a bit further.

Up past a little ski lift machine up and down to the beach & the path carried on meandering up & down through woods. We passed a beautiful woodland clearing at Watcombe & finally to Maidencombe where we decided to stop & get back to the car as we knew it would take a while to fetch & then back to my b&b which is ahead in Shaldon. I also was happy to stop when my feet were intact.

Tomorrow I will get a bus back to Maidencombe and do the approx 3 extra miles to Shaldon & onto Exmouth where I will see Harry's mum & sister which I am very excited about!
